Floral Design

So, as you guys know, I'm taking this class floral design. I'm taking it to meet an area 6 credit. This is one of my favorite classes this semester. Yeah, we have some work that we do aka reading and a few homework assignments.

I know, you guys are probably thinking, what do you possibly do in that class?

Well, let me tell you.

We have two lectures per week. Right now we are being lectured on the industry such as who are some top importers, exporters and such. We just got done lecturing about different mechanics (like cutting tools, containers, adhesive tools, and floral support) to use. Now, that may seem a little boring to some, but it's part of the curriculum that one must learn. We already learned about the elements, principles, and history or floral design.

And, the homework assignments are terrible. They aren't super easy, but they aren't hard. This class isn't a super easy A, you definitely have to put a little effort into it--just like any other class.

But, the reason why I really enjoy this class is because of the floral design labs that we do. Once a week, we create a floral design that we get to take home. (: The flowers last up to 2 weeks; so, that means I get to enjoy looking at the design for two weeks.(: In our labs, the teacher gives us a demonstration of what design we are making--but, we've gotten to the point where he doesn't need to do that anymore, he just tells us what our design goal is--, then we make the design while listening to some good old classic rock. After we make our design, we record the materials, likes/dislikes, personal reviews, ta reviews, and peer reviews in out lab journal along with pictures of our design. I, personally, think it's really nice to end my Monday with making a nice arrangement while listening to some good classics.

Well, I got to go get ready to go to my floral design lab. This week we are doing vase arrangements.

What are some of your favorite classes???

weekend

Current Status: watching Discovery Channel "LIFE" premiere with Oprah Winfrey as the narrator

Anywho, I will be briefly talk about my weekend.

Friday.

I went to this Mediterranean Cafe/Restaurant on Main Street with some friends. We came back to our dorm with the intentions of going to watch soccer games at one of the gyms. But, we ended up watching YouTube videos and hanging out. Then later we met with a couple of friend's at Deet's for ice cream. We went to DX to eat our ice cream. We ended up lounging at DX. haha Then we went back to our dorm and watch "Where The Wild Things Are", which was so weird and is definitely not kid friendly.

Saturday.
My roommate and I went to our quad and laid out and did homework. I got English done and read like 2 pages of Morality and Justice. Laying out in the quad is not productive. haha Our friend met us a couple hours later then we went to West End and ate outside. After that, we went to the Duck Pond and laid out to do homework. Read two more pages for Morality & Justice then fell asleep. After waking up from our nap, my friends and I decided to get dressed up, eat somewhere on Main Street, and then go to the choir concert. We ate at Backstreets, which was delicious. When we went to the concert, they said the tickets were sold out. But, luckily, the lady told us we could go in for free after the first song played. The performance was grand. After that we went to Deet's for ice cream (again) and we decided what to do next. We had the option of going to this one frat but we would have to get a ride & the person my roommate knows in that frat is definitely a character;so, we threw that option out. Then the other option was to go the St. Patrick's day party at this other frat. I don't have a problem with this frat, but I prefer to hang out with people I know. But, I was game for whatever. One of friends was tired so she decided she was going to go back to her dorm and sleep. So, my roommate, my other friend, and I decided to go back to our dorm. My roommate didn't feel good so she stayed in. So my friend and I decided to walk to the frat, but on the way we both decided we didn't want to go and we called my friend, Adam, who was hanging out with her boyfriend and we knew they were at Jeff's apartment, to see if it was okay if we came over. He said it was perfectly fine, so we went to Jeff's apartment. At Jeff's I saw a friend that I went to high school with that I haven't seen since last semester. We caught up with each other. It was nice.

Sunday.
I woke up at 8:30. Got ready for church. Went to church with the roommate. Showed up late. Didn't feel so good. So, left early. Came back. Napped until brunch with our friends. After brunch, came back and napped until 4:30-today wasn't a productive day. I did not feel so good. But, woke up and felt refreshed. Then had dinner with some friends around 6.

Yep. So, that was my unproductive weekend filled with nothingness; but at the same time, it was fun. haha

"Boy, 12, Charged with Murder"

So, last month, I read an article on CNN.com about a 12 year old boy who supposedly shot his dad's pregnant fiance killing both the fiance and the 8 month unborn baby. When I first read the article, I was shocked because the kid is so young. I still am shocked. The boy is two years younger than my little brother. My brother is a freshman in high school, so that means the kid is in 7th grade. He's in middle school! How outrageous is that? Middle School. Do you remember your middle school days? Could you imagine supposedly killing your dad's pregnant fiance, then put in a juvenile detention center waiting to be tried as an adult???
Jordan Brown, the 12 year old, is being tried as an adult! Pennsylvania Law states that a juvenile over 10, in cases of homicide, can be tried as an adult! According to CNN, if he is convicted, he will be sentenced to life in prison. How terrible is that? Can you imagine going to jail at 12, then serving your life in prison? You wouldn't go to a high school and experience or be given the opportunity of high school events such as homecoming, football games, prom. On top of that, you would never get to experience driving a car. You'll never experience going to college. Living day to day in a prison for the rest of your life, life would just be meaningless.
CNN also stated that instead of being convicted for life, he would serve jail time until 21. So, he would serve 9 years, but 9 years of his adolescence, his prime years that serve as a foundation of who he will become. This conviction seems less strict compared to life in prison, but it still is sad. Not only would he not enjoy or experience, or at least have the opportunity to experience the 9 years of his adolescence, he would also have a hard life after. No place would want to hire him. If he does get a job, it wouldn't be the greatest of jobs; it would be a low income job, probably wage based. Life would be unpleasant.
I watched the video today ( http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/crime/2010/03/15/carroll.juvenile.murder.charge.cnn?hpt=C2 ) to see the updates of the case. In the video, the family of the fiance that died showed no remorse whatsoever for the child. They seem so vengeful. Yes, I understand that two lives were lost and they have every right to be mad and upset. But, it kind of disgusts me how someone can be so vengeful and show so much hatred. On top of that, the poor father. Not only is he trying to cope with losing his fiance and future child, he also is trying to stay a good father and be a support system for his son. Even though this is situation, puts the dad in an awkward position, I think he is doing a fine job of being there for his son. Because if he wasn't there, who would be there for the him?
This crime/situation is just a sad, unfortunate situation in every perspective.

springBREAK

Spring Break is coming up-I know you guys are aware of that fact- and I'm so EXCITED! Not because I have any special plans, but just to have a break. The only crummy thing about breaks is right before it, we all have a buttload of work to do such as studying for exams, writing papers, and etc. But, I'm not here to complain about that; I think having all that work is nice, for a lack of better term, because it makes us more grateful for our breaks(work hard, play hard).
Work that I have this week is:
-Floral Exam (Monday)[done]
-English Rough Draft (Wed.)[still in progress]
-Morality & Justice Paper (Fri.) [still in progress]
Compared to others, I think my workload isn't that bad, if I stick to my plan and not procrastinate.
ANYWHO... I'm really excited for break. I usually don't get this excited, but I'm so PUMPED to go back home and see my family and friends.
Originally, my friend, Kalika (I love her name, it's so unique and fun to say), and I were going to go Myrtle Beach for a week with some of her UVA friends, who are just sweethearts. She said I could invite anyone, but I there wasn't anyone I could really invite. My best friend, Tess, has school that week, so that wasn't an option. And, I usually hang out with guys (they are easier to hang out with- no offense to girls, but they don't gossip or do that chit chat business like the majority of girls I know with the exception of a few); and my guy friends kind of get a little crazy when it comes to beaches and parties... so, that wasn't an option. But, I was totally game to go with her UVA friends and her.
As it turned out, four were able to go (due to parents approval/disapproval) including Kalika and me, which is totally fine because we decided it would be a girls' retreat; plus, we downgraded to a condo instead of a house.
But, then another barrier seemed to arise... we had to be at least 21 to sign for it. None of us are 21. We know people that are 21, but they are guys and after getting HYPED about having a girls' retreat, we kind of didn't want boys to come-no offense to any male readers.
So, Myrtle Beach wasn't an option any more.
As much I wanted to go, I guess it's fine that we aren't going because I get to stay home and hang out with my little brother.
If I went, I would have been gone from Monday to Thursday, which is a big chunk of Spring Break and my brother would have been upset with me that I was gone for so long.
So, everything worked out for the best.
I mean, there is always summer time if we want to go to the beach.

How about you guys... Are you doing anything exciting for Spring Break?
