Facebook

Facebook. All of us have one. scratch that. Majority of us have one. When a person states that he or she doesn't have one, a lot of us are surprised. It is just assumed that everyone has a facebook nowadays because it has become such a big aspect in our social life. It is used to network, keep in contacts with old friends, long distant relatives, to plan/coordinate events, to rally people with the same views via groups and so much more.
Facebook has so many settings and aspects that it is versatile for the every day person. But, that's the thing. Facebook is too versatile. It becomes addicting... too addicting for some. There are those people who are on facebook and won't have any activity except for "liking" activities or statuses. There are some who are FarmvilleADDICTS. Facebook has too many possible addictions. It's faceCRACK.
FaceCRACK also makes stalking socially acceptable. FacebookStalking is something the majority of us do and it's "perfectly" fine because everyone does it. But, stalking in real LIFE is ILLEGAL. But, cyber-stalking is okay?

Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE facebook. I love how I can keep in touch with friends and family. Leave then a message, video, or picture instead of sending an extensive e-mail (like the old days). I think facebook is a marvelous website. But, I feel some people just carried away with it and don't realize it. I'll admit it, I do get carried away to procrastinate homework (which I shouldn't be admitting via blogging for English homework). But, I break out of my trance and stop creeping. But, don't get me wrong. I do LOVE facebook.

Side-note: Sorry if this blog isn't sufficiently opinionated. I am watching the Super Bowl or trying to... And, I'm just trying to knock some homework out of the way because Mondays are so busy for me.

  1. While I use the term "facebook stalking" myself, I actually don't really think it exists except in extreme cases. People put up their information and pictures for everyone to see, so how is it stalking to just look at what someone wanted other people to see in the first place?

Of course there is legitimate facebook stalking, and that's bad. But I certainly wouldn't consider it stalking to view a photo album one of your friends put up that pops up on your news feed, although a lot of people might call that "facebook stalking."

And facebook is totally bad for people who like to procrastinate. I agree there.

  2. I know someone who will go back a whole years' worth of posts to 'stalk' them. Ya, i definitely agree that facebook stalking happens. Also their are people out their that use facebook for the wrong reasons if you know what I mean.

About half of my friends are addicted whether it is playing games or just roaming through the site. It is a very distracting item and doesn't help when you are trying to do homework either.

  3. I like facebook because you can politely remind fellow students that they forgot to do their blog posting ;) ;). Thanks, btw. Better late then never I suppose.

On a more focused note, I had to let my roommate change my password during finals last semester so I would actually get work done. We both went through withdrawals like crazy! Its scary.
